On September 20, 2025, Teddy Muba Lwamba took the helm of SNEL. Former Minister of Water Resources and Electricity and former Deputy Director General, he knows the company inside out. Congolese citizens are asking: will he finally bring light to the entire country?
The DRC has an enormous energy potential nearly 100 gigawatts of hydroelectric power. Yet only a few plants operate at full capacity. Inga I and II, Katende, Kakobola… these flagship projects remain largely untapped. Despite its resources, much of the country remains in the dark.
The challenge is massive. Aging infrastructure, technical and commercial losses, soaring urban demand, limited funding… Modernizing transmission lines, diversifying energy sources, and expanding the network are tasks of staggering scale.
Yet Teddy Lwamba has already shown he can move things forward. As minister, he restarted the Katende plant, launched the AGREE project to supply fourteen cities with electricity and water, and attracted international partners. His technical expertise and deep knowledge of the sector are rare assets.
It won’t be easy. “Powering the entire country” requires collective effort. The government, investors, provinces, and private operators must work in harmony. But with Teddy Lwamba at the helm, SNEL has strong leadership capable of coordinating these forces and meeting its commitments.
His return is a beacon of hope. Experience, skill, and vision now converge. Light could finally reach Congolese households. If anyone can meet this colossal challenge, it is him. The DRC has found a leader ready to turn its energy potential into tangible reality.
